I strongly feel that any musician who is worth his salt as a tuba player should be able to disguise the overall size or key of the instrument he is playing. Beyond that, there are bright, dark, thick, and thin sounding instruments manufactured in every key and sold at affordable rates.

Eb vs. F.....
I play F, but only because I found an affordable F tuba that plays in tune and fits me well.
