Another suggestion is to make sure that some college band directors are invited, not just the tuba teachers. If you can make it a convenient recruiting stop for the band directors, and they can hear 20 or so really good high school seniors in two days, then you'll get both the directors AND the high school kids looking for some college money. Most of the time, the band directors have access to more scholarship money than the tuba teachers, so get them into the mix. But you'll have to sell the directors on the idea of one-stop tuba student shopping. It's a win-win for everyone involved: the conference, the directors, and especially the students. The students get a full weekend of exposure to some great players, they get to audition for (and perhaps be awarded) a college scholarship, and they don't have to travel to a half dozen cities to see a half dozen different college band directors.
