You are strengthening muscles when you play, but it is NOT the same as weightlifting. You do need breaks to heal, but not days like actual weightlifting. More is better as long as you slowely build up to it, and make sure in a day if you practised a few hours straight you put several hours of rest in before your next run. More is obviously better, or else people who practised every other day would be doing better than people like Patrick Sheridan who practise 6-8 hours a day.
