I would be interested in how Americans are being received over there, in light of recent events. It seems that wherever you go, no matter the politics, bad circumstances, or tense relations, etc., musicians' kinship with each other always overcomes those hindrances/obstacles. I may be going out on a limb here. I have played all over the country playing different music for different audiences. In my experience, when musicians get together, all that other stuff (albeit important) does not even enter the picture. Audiences are apparently not effected either. I was wondering if my grand assertion on kinship is holding true in Europe these days. I played in a quintet with a french horn player several years before I found out he was a flaming liberal/socialist. Didn't effect our ensemble before or after we learned of his condition. Maybe it's a "left brain doesn't work when the right brain does" thing. I don't know. I always thought music was the greatest, if not the only, international language. It's the tie that binds, and I would like to believe it is still true today, despite today's politics. Hopefully, someone can weigh in on Musikmesse and enlighten all of us about the event and general sentiment in the music community. DISCLAIMER: NOT INTENDED TO START A POLITICAL DEBATE.
Doc (who may be way off base with his thinking)
