If you want to perform, you ought to go for the performance degree. Yes, it's true you can practice all you want take all the lessons you want in any major. But, you really need to be totally immersed in performing if performing is what you want to do. If you get some other degree, you may become too comfortable in some other job and you may lose sight of Euphonium. As for the other subject, you are limiting yourself bigtime if you don't want to be in a Military Band. There are some scattered civilian bands like the Dallas Wind Symphony. You could become a soloist. Tuba/Euph quartet could get you a few gigs. Brass Bands. You really need to sit down and think about exactly why you want to be a euphonium performance major. The field is too competitive to not be sure. The purpose of going to college (IMHO) is to prepare for a future career - at least students out of high school. You will have to be able to "put bread on the table" eventually. Good luck.
