No flames here, just a sad story: in the community orchestra I play in, when the oboe tunes the orchestra, she puts a tuner on her stand. Then she starts the A, usually incredibly sharp, and bends it down until it matches the A on the tuner. She does not tune her oboe. After the orchestra is tuned, she puts away the tuner. Can you imagine the intonation of the group?
