While a PT-48 isn't exactly shallow, it's more shallow and bowl-shaped than my bit Elliott R and T cups. It gives the big Holton a growl and character on the lower notes that I like. It also works really well in loud sections, avoiding any hint of woofiness. I'm therefore considering experimenting with an Elliott P cup, or even an N cup, for the big Holton.

If Joe is right and it makes the low register easier to manage, then I'm even more eager to give it a try. At present, I'm trying to lay a good foundation on the instrument with one mouthpiece before making any more moves.
