Do you play jazz at all? I do a bit of work on jazz euph (have a gig tonight, in fact; nothing big -- it pays $20+dinner), and the instrument really makes an impression on people. I've shown up to sessions with these jaded urban jazz musicians who act like I'm invisible, when I show up with a trombone -- but when I play the euph, these same guys come up and say, "Man, what a great sound you get out of that thing! I've never heard anything like that!" Whether or not this translates into a career opportunity is another matter -- but a jazz euphonium makes a splash, I can tell you that.
