I've messed around with leadpipes on the Besson EEb tuba, and I agree that the change can make a big difference. As far as mouthpieces go, a bigger mouthpiece is a bigger mouthpiece. After that, it all comes down to what's comfortable for your face, and how deep or shallow you want it to be. The deeper, the darker. Same for the throat: the bigger, the darker. But deep cups and large throats can also mean shrunken octaves, especially in combination with a wide cup, and that can spell more tuning hastles. Everything is a compromise.
