If a person's first-choice consideration when shopping for a horn is price,
then by all means they should first use price alone to narrow the field of tubas
being considered. But once done, try to resist looking back over your shoulder.

You're right,
people spend that kind of money for large horns, and often QUITE a bit more!
But they also spend large like that for medium and small horns too...
though not as often for some reason

If that tubas a real gem (and we really have no reason to suspect it is not),
and considering that many fine f's go for much more than
the more garden-variety (cookie-cutter-produced) MW45S-LP's you mentioned,
is it THAT hard to see that the asking price may be reasonable?

Wanna guess the reason why the price range for used Yorkbrunners
sold in the past couple of years spreads from 8K to 15K?
Heck, the new ones range from 12-18, right?
Think they're identical horns that all work exactly the same way?
Probably not, but if price is your first consideration, you'll never know!!!

I hope this gives you enough to reach a conclusion,
if not, ask your teacher at your next lesson.
