My 40K also has the 24" bell with the original rolled rim.

Rob P-M here on the board has made a credible of the older 40K's having 24" bells.

With my own standing on heavy instruments to be carried I have the belief, that the "luxury" 4 piston sousas (mine is even gold plated over silver on all surfaces) were never intended for marching, but rather were dance band instruments.

RD, you, and I were very active on a thread, where I made the point, that the benefit of a less excessive bell flare combined with a large throath might be a much reduced ringing/afterglow.

Maybe we should ask Harv about the stampings on the bell assembly collars.
