Pistons on Euro tubas fit very close, and are prone to sticking. Even a particular Willson CC that I play sometimes has a naughty #1 valve. When I oil it, it behaves for about two hours...long enough for me...and working well enough to not dictate that I stop and do something about it.

Having a qualified repairman lap your valves shouldn't be prohibitively expensive. Often with these types of tubas, after a year or so, oxidation forming on the casings can grab on to pistons and make them stick.

I really suspect the nylon guides on these instruments sometimes hang on the guide tracks sometimes, too. Of course, brass guides would offer that incessant banging and clicking.

Finally, once you solve this problem, you should never pick up your instrument by any of the small tubing...always by large body parts.
