That is completely true. Make sure that your valves are going straight down, or they will rub against the side. I usually have this problem in marching band because my fingers aren't long enough to reach the valves on a suzy. This can be overcome by just constantly reminding yourself while you play. If you tell yourself enough times, you'll eventually remember. I learned that one from Jeff Curnow. He must be doing something right if he's in Phili.
