As to 4/4 CC piston tubas I personally think the new 1291 CC Miraphone will be a winner but they have only had the prototype to play.
The prototype was killer, had great intonation, projection, sound and very even throught out the whole scale and what a killer low register. Very easy to play in the upper register as well and played easily in all dynamic levels.
We will see when they finally come out next year. It it is as good as the prototype, then I would rank them 1291, and for me 56 Conn and then the Gronitz on 4/4 CC tubas.
