2) Joe mentions his jazz gig.
3) Tom asks about Joe's tone when playing jazz. One might infer that he thinks what is
crappy in one idiom is not in another.
4) Rick agrees with Tom's intended inference but then seems to disagree.
5) Now Tom is confused.
