I know from experience--I was a middle school student for 3 years (pause for laughter).

Get enough 4/4 concert horns (I started on a YBB-201, but they've recently added a King 2341 to the arsenal) to do a concert with. For a school the size of mine, this meant 3 full size horns (now 4 with the King). Put these on Wenger tuba tamers and keep them there.

Then buy enough 3/4 horns that the students have something to take home and practice on (I had the pleasure of the YBB-103--sweet little horn). These will get banged up, naturally. But for concerts and classroom use, the student a)is playing a perfect condition tuba and b) that tuba stays perfect for YEARS.

My $.02
