As a nephew of Frank and Freddie Assunto and a grandson of Papa Jac I thank you for your recommendation of the Assunto's Real Dukes of Dixieland recorded material. The group was truly the high profile dixieland band of the mid 50's to the late 60's and did release a ton of tunes that other groups wouldn't touch. Frank's theory, and the record company's A/R guys, was to perform the tunes of the day in a dixieland fashion. One plentiful source for these tunes was the Broadway musicals that were currently playing. Through their recordings with Audio Fidelity, Decca, MCA they used this formula. One of my favorites is on Volume 10: Live at Carnagie Hall, Seventy-Six Trombones. Lowell Miller plays some rightious four beat bass lines on the tuba just after the opening ensemble.

Shortly the wrongs of the past twenty years will be righted. The Estate of Frank J Assunto is the registered owner of the name Dukes of Dixieland since August 2002. This should open pleathra of possiblities. Visit our website at the link below.
