Do you know there are two kinds of musicians out there? The first type maybe does not sight read all that well but can learn to play a piece perfectly with the requisite amount of work. The second type can sight read almost as well as they can play, but practicing a piece does not get results for them like it does for the rote learners. I've observed this for all my life but have never been able to figure it out. You see both types as pros....but often the less talented rote learner will win in a contest when the more-talented sight-reader has done an equivalent amount of work. It must be different kinds of brains.
