The Marine Band(The President's Own, Washington DC) hasn't, to my knowledge, sent anyone off to boot camp since before anyone can remember, if possibly ever. I enlisted in 1989 and drove straight to Washington to start my duties. The Drum and Bugle Corps does require boot camp. Mr. Dodd tried out for that group, possibly?
I'll ask someone in the know tomorrow to see if the President's Own has ever shipped anyone off to Parris Island or San Diego(I'm fairly sure we haven't)
