Like I said, I don't remember doing it, but I don't remember not doing it either.
I do remember the whole lead pipe came loose. It had a clamp on the bell to hold it, and one near the valve body.
It was new the first year I marched with it. It came in during (late) summer band camp. It was a currewnt model in 1987.
I remember side valves, because our other tuba had top valves.
I remember right shoulder, because the other horn was on the left.
We always lined up so our horns were on the outside, usually with the drum line between us. My horn was bigger, and much heavier.
I cannot find a picture if the 15J, but saw a description that said it had top valves.
