I know Holst wrote a tenor tuba part and not a euphonium part. My composition teacher was telling me how the tenor tuba solo is probably the only flaw because of balance issues against the 2 trumpets responding in "Mars". But I did tell him that Holst most likely wrote for the original tenor tuba, which has more power and projection.
I would like to know if there are any recording of The Planets with the use of a tenor tuba instead of a euphonium.
