the symphony wanted that sound and he was happy to not have to deal with the intonation issues of the Alex. He would go back to it for Pops and on occaision would use his Alex BBb in both orchestras.
I asked him about the Jabba recording and he said he was a little disappointed that it didn't sound quite as big as he thought it did when he was recording it. I think it sounds awesome.
BTW, I studied with him from 1985-89. It was a great experience.
