fact of life: Compared to the quantity of cellists and bassoonists, there are very few tuba players in the world who perform at the artist-soloist level. (flame away, but it ain't gonna make this fact evaporate)

also: One should be able to easily find a recording of Galliard sonatas by a world-class cellist or bassoonist.

If I was looking for a recording to emulate ("steal" interpretive ideas), I would always go to a recording of an artist playing the originally intended instrument.

I've done a few transcriptions myself over the years (' not particularly fond of "tuba music") and (obviously) have had no choice other than to survey recordings of violinists, flautists, oboists, etc. when considering sets of interpretive "bags of tricks".
