When I pull out stuff to play that's "too fast", I stop thinking about how difficult it is to mash the buttons and try to completely concentrate on the way the lick is supposed to sound. After a week or two, I always manage to play the lick up to tempo and without "fumble fingers". Otherwise (concentrating on the fingers), it's hopeless.
