"lag bolt" and "lag screw" (though this seems arbitrary and confusing to me) are the same thing: Either of these names means a wood screw with a hex head.

The term that I should have used is "cap bolt" (though "cap screw" also seems to be correct here...even though it doesn't seem that it should be correct, because it is definitely a bolt).
