My thoughts are Gunther Schuller has a kick-ass first name. I may be ignorant about the life and times of Sam Pilafian, but my ignorance does not extend to the field of jazz. Is Pilafian the "Coltrane/Kerouac" of the tuba? No way! The historical context that defines guys like that does not apply to Pilafian.
