To answer your question concerning the McDonald's All-American High School Band: it hasn't existed since 1991. I participated in the last group to march the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (representing Kentucky back in 1989--wow, I'm old), and then the last reincarnation of the group existed as an All-American "pep band" for the All-American Basketball game, and was half the size of the original group (52 players instead of the 104: McDonald's would choose 2 musicians from each state, 2 from DC, and 1 each from Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands). I think MENC does support some type of All-American group, but I'm not sure how the group is derived.

BTW...I play at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg during the summer as a tubist there....have your son contact me about summer playing opportunities. Great summer money, especially when your looking for a chance to play your horn!
