One really useful thing about the quote button is that you can still edit what you want quoted.
Say you want to quote somebody, but you just want to focus on a certain part of what they posted. Click the quote button, and when your reply page opens, you'll have something like this in the text entry field:
[quote] blah blah blah blah.. BLAH BLAH blah ... This is the important sentence. Blah blah, blahblah.... [/quote]
(quick HTML lesson: the square brackets [ ] surround a formatting command... the / ends the command.. so, [quote] begins formatting a quote, and [/quote] finishes the quote... anyway, going on..)
To edit the quote, just delete all the text in between the HTML tags that you don't need. In this case, you'd end up with:
[quote]This is the important sentence.[/quote]
It's actually pretty simple, and easier than you'd think to get the hang of.
