My 1969 Alex had an old Miraphone leadpipe as well...I bought the horn from Lee Hipp in 1996 or 97, and just last year, after TSA (airport security) destroyed my horn, I had a brand new Alexander bell (larger 18") and Alexander leadpipe (much larger than the Miraphone leadpipe) put on her...HUGE DIFFERENCE!!! The horn now plays damn near perfectly in tune with NATURAL fingerings...very little adjustment needed. Also, the larger bell helps me produce a little wider, more "Americanized" sound. Just before this happened, i was heavily considering selling my Alex, but since the modifications were made, I don't think I will EVER sell this horn. Work was done by Jason Bitner of Rayburn Music, Boston.
