I agree with Bryan, if you use the trumpet style fingerings you will be less confused in the long run. It would probably do you good to buy a trumpet "Arbans" book and work out of that on every key of tuba that you play. The "let's pretend" that we are in bass clef and add three flats method is used essentially by people playing Eb tuba parts on F or(if they are mentally deranged) C tubas. And right, if you plan on playing much Eb tuba outside of brassband you'll have to learn the actual non transposed, or note for note fingerings.
