I have been playing on a Meinl Weston 2145 since Christmas, 1998, and I find it a very good horn for many purposes, especially the type of playing I do in the Festive Brass Quintet. I've also used it in various brass groups accompanying choirs. The valves are great, the sound is mellow and the range of the instrument from low to high is very versatile. In my opinion, the horn does require a fairly large mouthpiece (I use a couple of modified Bach 12 type mouthpieces). It is a lot of horn for the money.

Having said the above, I also use a Miraphone 188 on many of my jobs, especially those outdoors, and I find it to be a very good horn also. It has a little more diffuse sound with its larger bell size, and a different timbre. I like both horns, and think they are comparable.

It might be wise for you to compare the Meinl Weston 2145, the Miraphone 188 and the Miraphone 186 CC tubas side by side to see which one is best for you.
