Hello,
I have a old B&H imperial Eb (I don't know the model #). Similar to what is now the Besson 982. It has a small mouthpiece receiver. the Besson 981 has a full size mouthpiece receiver and and larger lead pipe which really opens up the lower register. i am looking to make the switch in the near future. I played the Meinl Weston, the Willson and the Nirschl Ebs very briefly at the US Army Tuba Euph conference in DC last Jan. and they are all excellent horns, but I am still partial to the sound of the Besson. When I need a bigger sound I use a Dennis Wick 2 mouthpiece, which helps alot. these horns are very versatile in their sound. With the smaller mouthpiece (Wick 4)it is very light and direct while the larger mouthpiece really opens up the horn. It really is amazing how much difference the mouthpiece can make. ken k
