Aren't the "base" model St. Pete's supposed to have crummy valves? It's an extra $900 for the upgraded valves - $1080 + $900 = $1980 With tax, customs, shipping, it is around $2300 (maybe less due to currency fluctuations).

Right now there's a Yamaha YBB-621 on ebay *with hard case* that will probably be a *lot* less than $2300. Brasswind has a "scratch and dent" Amati for $1499, new for $1599. IMHO, there are a lot of options for "hobbyist" (like me) horns besides just the St. Pete.
