I believe it is true that you have to buff the old metal off before you can replate the mouthpiece if you want a quality job done. I would suggest you send the mouthpieces to Anderson Plating in Indiana. They have done whatever replating I've had done in the past (both gold and silver) and have done the best of anybody I know of. Both mouthpieces I've sent them have come back just like new and didn't feel at all different to me, except for the new plating of course. It has been many years since I've had this type of work done so maybe one of the repair-type guys on this BBS can give you the current contact information for Anderson. Good luck!
