A question for the repair folks.
My idea:
I have a 3 piston valve Whayley Royce Eb "Ideal" (year, right ... if this horn is ideal, then my *real* horn is orgasmic!) that I want to convert to C. It currently has the tuning slide before the valves. I was thinking of having extra tubing added to bring the length of the horn to that of a C. Each valve has enough slide to pull out to play in tune at this longer length.
My question:
WITHOUT cutting the bell (changing taper & diameter to mimic a C) will just adding tubing get it in the right key but sound like sh*t?
Would "cutting" it to Bb be a better idea (better overlap of the harmionic series)?
