First, let me agree with the others and tell you right off that the Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto will sound much better and be far easier to play on an 'F' or 'Eb' tuba.

Now, you don't HAVE one of those… you have a 'CC' tuba - so here's my suggestion: try the Marcinkiewicz N4 mouthpiece (the "Tommy Johnson" model). I've used this mouthpiece for 16 years on my F tuba and occasionally on my Mirafone 185 CC with great success (usually when I play the higher 1st tuba in a quartet). It still ain't gonna be a walk in the park to play the Vaughan Williams on a 'CC'… but at least the N4 mouthpiece might make it a little easier for you.
