The minidisc recorder works well for most recordings, until I start to
specifically listen to someone playing the cymbals on drum set.
Hi hats are ok.... but the sustains on the ride and/or crash cymbals
just don't sound right... It's probably the compression algorithm used
by the MD that changes the cymbals' sound. This goes for both recording
off the the mic as well as using the "line-in" from some other device.

If I'm going to be recording a small jazz combo,
where the cymbals are extensively exposed, I'd like use a DAT...
but that's only if I'm interested in listening to the drummer...

Otherwise, the minidisc does just fine for me....
