I performed once in a community orchestra that tackled Symphony Fantastique. And, by "tackled", it wasn't a solid, stop-'im-in-his-tracks tackle, but a drag-down, smashmouth, multi-person tackle. We got the purpose across even if it wasn't a commercially viable performance (although the tubas ruled... heh... but without dropping octaves).

On programs that include easy & complex music, an ensemble will be happy with the easy stuff first, but then get tired of it as they assemble the difficult works.
