Hey

I would NOT recommend the Silent Brass Mute to you, especially if you have had problems with your chops in the past. I think that the mute is not a good idea for someone who hasn't had a lip injury. Therefore, someone who is worried about the condition of their embochure should be very apprehensive. I feel making a habit of playing with a mute can not only hurt a persons tone quality, but it is inevitable that pressure problems will result from playing with a piece of plastic wedged in your bell. Pressure then obviously leads to even more problems. Somone else had a good idea of finding a church or local music school with practice rooms (legal of course..ha ha). Playing with a practice mute should be the absolute last resort!!! The only time a mute would make sense is if there was absolutely no hope for practicing somewhere else....and that is absolutely no chance!!
