How about this for a field trip. Last week, Michael brought his entire student brass ensemble from Sweden to Chicago - all 22 pieces! They played a few concerts (Michael is not a bad conductor), heard the CSO and had a few masterclasses with the CSO trombone and tuba section, Dale Clevenger and Bud Herseth! Now that's my idea of a field trip.
After their Saturday night concert, I met with Michael and was assigned a mission of mercy. While those in the Swedish community of Chicago's far north side were generous enough to open their homes to the ensemble, they wanted to meet as a group for a final Saturday night bash in Chicago. I brought Michael around the neighborhood for 45 minutes with no luck then finally found a bar 3 blocks away. After a little bribery to the bartender, the ensemble was treated to some Goose Island beer and Giordono's Pizza. Mission accomplished!
Congrats Michael on a trip your students will never forget.
