I've not played one myself, but I'm told (by Mike Russo at BrassWind) they are very similar in sound and response to the Miraphone 188's. This horn has been redesigned slightly (now the 1295 model) where the 5th valve is now a flat whole step instead of the traditional flat 2/3 combination on Miraphone tubas like the 1290.
Say, if you find that you are not interested in this tuba, I would be. If you decide not to buy the 1290, please let me know who to contact about buying this horn.
