Trumpet players tend to play on instruments keyed closely to the music played.

Yamaha even once issued a trumpet in E with the single purpose to make it easier to play the Hummel concerto in its original key.

Tubists apparently do choose instruments from considerations of range and of the desired weight of sound.

However, legend has it that some tubists, even from the Legion of Honours, have aquired instruments in special keys.

If a player has the chance to make a lucky matcth of music and instrument, then just accept it.

And using such small bore tuba for the Bydlo part might very well be the one, single, and only argument for not playing it on a euphonium.

Any comparisons between overtone series and bore relations of the original French CC tuba and any potential substitutes will point towards the euph as the best choice.

I even have heard, live, a beautiful rendition done on a Conn Constellation 4 valve euph. The orchestra was our RSO. And the conductor was Sergiu Celibidache. Known as a knitpicking perfectionist beyond belief.

Sorry for roughing up a bit, but I most certainly did not like the tone of the question!
