I can only comment on my own personal experience so take the below with a grain of salt.
During my junior year of college, I started to get a lot of pain in my jaws after only about 10-15 minutes of playing. The pain was such that I could not continue playing. It turned out that all four of my wisdom teeth were impacted and were pushing the rest of my teeth forward. I was lucky as I was able to have them removed over spring break. This gave me time to take a break from the horn while I recovered. At any rate I was playing again in about a week with no "nerve damage" or difference in my playing (other than being pain free!) I am glad I decided to have them removed.
