I'm glad I'm not the only person who views it this way. I've seen it live a good half dozen times, and own two recordings of it...it is definitely not a piece I ever plan on performing(unless it happens to be part of an audition or competition). John Williams is a decent composer, but his tuba concerto(imho) is definitely on the lower end of the spectrum of his compositional abilities.
