I have a related question: my 13yo son now plays piano, trombone,
and electric bass (and smatterings of any number of instruments that
he picks up in the band room and "fools around on"). He wants to get
started on tuba as this summer's "project".

He'll be using my YBB-621S.

I would greatly appreciate guidance on appropriate materials, and what
to work on. This will be low key, and he'll be going back to the trombone
once school starts up again.

I'm particularly interested in ways to liven up the typical
"beginners' method book" material. Since he already understands the
musical theory that usually accompanies the beginning steps, I'm afraid
that he'll consider it too elementary and rush through the physical
training.

My default choice for "method book" material is Rubank.

Would it help (or hurt) to encourage him to play material he already
knows on the trombone by reading it down an octave for the tuba?
