I played one about ten years ago in the tuba house at Custom Music. I was really pleased that I found an Alex that played fairly in tune, as I love their sound. At the time, I wanted a big piston CC, and bought a Kurath instead. It did what I wanted, but sometimes I regret not buying that Alex because it had that dreamy Alex sound, and the alternate fingerings were very few. A rare find. Don't know what happened to that one. Dave Kirk (Houston) is a hardcore Alexander guy. Not sure how to contact him, but he's definitley an Alex authority.
