I think you can do better than this tuba. Yeah, it is not very expensive but think of a tuba as a lifetime purchase. You want to get something good. I second the previous poster who recommended the Meinl Weston. Great tuba at a great price. Would work in any ensemble so I definetly wouldn't "hold you back". Also, you might consider, since you are not a music major, a BBb tuba. It may sound like blasphemy, but there truly are some GREAT BBb tubas out now. You can get a Miraphone 191 4-vavle for $4,400 (Same price as the Phillips by the way). I played the five-valve version recently and I am not kidding when I say it was the best BBb I ever played. Even though it has four vavles and is a BBb I can assure you, if you aren't a major, it wouldn't hold you back. Good luck with your search for the perfect tuba!
