corrosion?

My 2.5 yo YBB-621S is showing 2 (minor? I hope!) problems.

First - one valve stem has a few "speckles" of discoloration.
I haven't seriously tried to clean them. It's clearly limited to
only 1 valve stem (#2, I think).

Second - the finish is virtually tarnish free (well, perhaps the hint of
a fine patina) - probably because the tuba is *always* in the case when
not in use. The major exception is an ugly stain which appear to come
from the joint connecting the bell section to the bottom bow. There is
a dark stain that appears to spread from that joint - there is also a patch on
a nearby brace.

Here, too - I haven't seriously tried to clean it up. I thought I would first
ask: what does this sound like? In particular, is there likely to be something
seriously awry with that joint between the bell and the bottom bow? What should
I do to diagnose the problem?
