These horns have a huge, dark sound and take a ton of air. They're good for large ensembles, but can overpower small groups. The 601's can handle a huge dynamic range, but it can be difficult to play softly with control. They have some of the typical intonation problems of large horns, so expect some slide pulling and alternate fingerings. Expect a LOT of slide pulling when using the 4th valve below low F#. Octaves can be difficult to tune. Even so, with these problems, 601's can be a lot of fun to play.

Any horn from any manufacturer, especially from one with an uneven history like Cerveny, is a gamble. I'd only buy the horn unseen if you can get a guaranteed trial period, and make sure that you'll be able to try the horn with the groups that you'll be playing with most of the time. With a big horn like the 601, you need to make sure that it's sound won't be too strong or too dark for your situation.
