agreed. a lot of teachers put their high school students on horns that are way too big for them at the time (or the student ignores the teachers advice and buys a big horn anyway). it is very hard to solo on these horns, especially in high school. I know Gene Pokorney does it, but he does it because he's Gene Pokorney, he's in the CSO, and he can. ask other teachers. someone else who you trust. where are you going to school next year? ask that person. the smaller horns tend to be easier to play and won't cover up any weaknesses. so, you will have nothing to hide behind (this is a good thing). a lot of guys will buy something small and versatile while they're only on one horn (a 4/4 mirafone or meinl weston would probably suit you nicely), get an F tuba later, then eventually make the big step up, but this last one is years into college. good luck.
